Feast of Saint Joseph - Miracles of Saint Joseph

To send this card: St. Joseph

Quote for the Day:

Saint Teresa said that she could not remember ever asking Saint Joseph for anything that she did not receive.
St Teresa of Avila

Novena to St. Joseph - Ninth Day

O Glorious Saint Joseph
Whose power it is
to render possible
things which are impossible,
come to my aid
in this present
difficulty and distress.

Take this impossible
and difficult affair
which I reccommend to you
under your special care
and protection
that it may have
a happy issue.

O Glorious Saint Joseph,
let it not be said
that I have invoked you in vain.
Since you are so powerful
with Jesus and Mary
show that your goodness
equals your power.

Amen.

Lent Prayer for the Day

Father, creator
you give the world new life
by your sacraments.
May we, your Church,
grow in your life
and continue to receive
your help on earth.
Grant this through
our Lord Jesus Christ,
your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit,
one God,
for ever and ever. Amen.

Miracle Monday. Hmmm, so what miracle shall I share with you today? Think, think, think. Okay, this is a Saint Joseph miracle. Quite a few years ago when I was first learning to play the organ, we had an old, old organ without a full pedal board. I really wanted to have a full pedal organ but I didn't see anyway to get it except for prayer.

So I started praying the above prayer, every day, and all through the day. One day something was wrong with our organ and I needed to call in a repair person to fix it. While the technician was working on the organ we started talking and I shared how I really wanted a full pedal board organ. He said he had a used one that he was repairing and fixing up and offered to sell it to me at a very low and reasonable price.

Not only that but at the time MIDI was coming out (this is a special set up on musical instruments that allow you to attach extra sounds with any instrument and/or computer). This guy who by now was rapidly becoming a friend.. said he could put MIDI on it for very little extra and he even had a Sound box of hundreds of sounds that he would throw in the deal for free!

I was super excited and when I shared this information with the Sisters they said I could buy it!

I was so excited I could hardly sleep that night. The next morning when I woke up, still very excited I composed this little song to Saint Joseph. It's just a simple little song that I sang over and over for days and days while my new organ was being fixed up with MIDI.

I don't have music to it.. I just sang it very simply,.... over and over and over. I still do... I have lots of confidence in Saint Joseph and have received lots of other miracles from him as well.

Oh Boy! Oh Joy!
O Wonder of Wonders!
O Miracle of Miracles!
Saint Joseph has heard my plea for help
and come to rescue me.....

repeat fifty million times.

Blessings of Peace and All Good,
Sister Patricia and all the Sisters

Do you have any miracle stories of answered prayer from Saint Joseph? Please share on the Blog.

Recently, after the death of my father, my siblings and I put our beloved family home up for sale. Sixty years the house stood solid without a problem until we put the the sale sign up. The house started to have some structural difficulties...I really don't think it wanted to be sold! The new roof sprung a leak, and the house began to literally cry. I had a good talk with my parents in heaven and told them to quit meddling with the sale of the house. It just wasn't practical for any of us to move there to live in it, or to rent it out. I surveyed the water damage and sighed a plea to St. Joseph to help us find a good owner. And the next day he sent us a carpenter to buy it! The old neighbors say he's gutting the place, and it'll never be the same home, but I am ever so thankful to St. Joseph for sending us a carpenter who will repair it and care of it better than we could have ever done so ourselves.
Thank you St. Joseph !

Hi Sister Pat and everyone, thank you for keeping us on the right path and helping us start our day right.

my miracle happened in 2004, i was travelling with 4 other friends to a party to a place whose roads are slippery even when it is not raining. i stay in Uganda. i had earlier on started the Ancient Novena to St. Joseph, on the morning of that day i somehow forgot to say the Novena, i even got out of the house locked the door, and was just about to move to the gate, then, something reminded me about the Novena, i went back said my prayer and went out again. the car i was seated in was the first to leave, on our way something got loose and the next thing we knew, the car was literally flying off the road into the bush. the people who saw the car getting off the road knew for sure we were dead, they all came not to help i can assure you, but like they are wont to do in Africa, take anything valuable.

they were all shocked to see us get out of the car, alive, and only one of us was injured, the rest of us walked out of that car safe, no mirrors were broken its only the bumper that was caved in. everyone marveled at our survival. it was only the intercession of St. Joseph, (the prayer promises that you will be saved from any accidents) and the Blessed Virgin Mary that we are alive. (somehow my friend's rosary ended up in my hands, thats when i knew that she had been with us, as St. Joseph prevented that car from killing us.we went on to enjoy the party and had fun. but at the back of my mind i kept thinking i would not have been alive!

rather long reading, but we gave thanks to God and to St. Joseph for his faithfulness.

Well, there's no doubt about it and I share the excitement you felt when St Joseph supplied your request-by-prayer Sister Pat. Something really wonderful has happened today! St Joseph has always supplied me when I've needed a winter coat for early Sunday mornings to Sydney when I sang at St Patricks, Church Hill and on every other occasion I have been truly in need for myself or others. I've been cantoring at St Peter-Julian's for five years since I left St Patricks and just lately I have felt my Music Ministry hanging by a thread at my usual day/time slot there because of an ongoing problem with just one person. My heart has been fit to breaking these last six weeks or so. I travelled to St P.J.s for 12.10 p.m. Mass today and I had some special prayer/meditation time beforehand and two, very dear Sisters of St Joseph who are regulars on the day I cantor there were present. After Mass I proceeded on a hospital visit to Gosford and came home to receive an invitation from my dear friend who plucked me out for Music Ministry those 10 years ago when she was working at St Patricks Church Hill, Sydney. "Margaret, are you available to cantor Holy Thursday and Easter Vigil at St Peter-Julian's?". No wonder the hymn "Jesus Christ Has Risen Today" kept playing in me from the time I left church this afternoon. I kept thinking to myself, "Oh this is wacky but at least I'm happy-in-heart". I had been talking with 2 friends per phone just before connecting to the internet and had been wondering if this was the end and perhaps I wasn't intended to work in Music Ministry anymore.

Thank you St Joseph, thank you Sister Pat and yes an old American Indian saying:

"It is not the words of the chant that make the prayer, It is the way they are said.

It is not the words we say each to the other, It is how we say them.

A good chant grows with the singing,
A good talk comes from a singing heart".

Thank you for your singing heart and your presence in my life, Sister Pat. It was as though you were with me this morning at home before I began my journey to Sydney.

"I will see you tomorrow. Walk with a good heart because this world will be here tomorrow for all those whose hearts are open."
(Another old American Indian saying)

I have kept the Miraculous Prayer to St Joseph by my bedside ever since you first offered it to us via your "Joy Notes" some time ago.

With love and gratitude from Margaret in Oz.

St. Joseph has been so good to me and mine, especially since my Dad died, 22 Mar 1987.
One Christmas, we couldn't afford a Christmas tree. I prayed to St.Joseph and my Dad to please find us a tree. I had seen trees for sale at a local craft store, but they were $25.00 and up, too much. I prayed and waited. I prayed that the kids would like whatever presents they would get. Then a couple of days before Christmas, I returned to the craft store, and found a beautiful balsam fir tree for $ 3.00! Thank you again, St. Joseph.
St. Joseph was one of my Heavenly Family-members who helped me quit smoking in 1995.
St.Joseph got us a new gas furnace, at our old rented townhome. He sent us free St.Joseph's Oil this month. He is finding us our own home which we will be able to afford, because he has never let us down. We don't have a down-payment, but I am sure that St.Joseph will find a way for us to buy our own home, close to the Church.
St.Joseph, thank you for every miracle you have done on our behalf.
Love,
One of your grateful kids.

When we were in Montreal for a convention we went to St. Joseph Oratory though my husband was having difficulty walking any great distance from bad circulation. When we returned to the hotel, I applied the oil from the oratory to his legs and prayed to St. Joseph. We spent the remainder of our stay walking all over the city. He truly is our patron saint.

My Dad prayed the St. Joseph Prayer in the Pieta Prayer Booklet every day. It stated after the prayer that it would protect a person from fire, drowning, etc. My Dad made rosaries out of cord and beads he ordered from Kentucky. He used to cut the cord using his blow torch!! (FYI, he made over 15,000 before dying in 1998.) Twice he was wearing a long sleeve flannel shirt -- twice it caught fire on his arm and the fire ran up his shirt sleeve! He was never burned and the shirt was never blackened. Another time he was out crabbing by himself. A very long time ago a priest had given him a black rosary and the links had turned gold! He was bending over to check his crab line when his rosary fell out of his pocket into the water. He bent over to reach for it and fell into about 12' of water and his boots got stuck in the mud. He couldn't get them off, so he thought: "Well, Lord, I guess this is it." Then he was pulled out of his boots straight up to the top of the water and was able to swim to his skiff and after a few times of trying to get into his boat, he made it (he felt he had help there too). His rosary and his boots are still there in the mud. No doubt in any of our minds that St. Joseph is a mighty intercessor and I pass his prayer and tell this story as a witness to St. Joseph's prayer and intercession. God is good.

I was scheduled for a complete hysterectomy on the Feast of St. Joseph (yesterday!) after suffering for years from endometriosis and a miscarriage in December 2006. My husband and I had resigned ourselves to the fact that we wouldn't have any more children. Prior to reporting to the hospital, I went to mass, and saw a newborn baby. Well, the tears just started to fall, and I couldn't stop them. I was confused by my emotions, and wondered why I was feeling such a strong desire for another child! Afterall, I was hours away from having my uterus removed! I prayed to St. Joseph for his help and guidance. While being prepped for the surgery, it was discovered that I was 6 weeks pregnant. Needless to say, I was sent home (in shock!)Now that the news is slowing sinking in, I know that there is no guaranteee that I will carry this baby to term, but I am confident that St. Joseph and our Blessed Mother are watching over this 'little miracle'.

Easy Chicken Soup:
Bag of frozen chicken tenders (or fresh)
Potatoes, cut bite size
1/4 cup rice
Bag of frozen vegetables - whatever combination you prefer - we like the kind with the baby corn, asparagus, green beans etc
Lipton's Flavored Noodles - whatever flavor you like - Alfredo works nicely and makes a rich broth
Salt
Ms Dash
Garlic - fresh if you have it, powdered if you don't

I get raves every time I cook this. It's the soup I take to anyone who is sick with a cold. The amount of chicken tenders and potatoes you use depends on how far you want this to go. I use a large dutch oven pot, filling it about half full of water to cover the chicken. Bring to boil, then simmer covered an hour or two. You may need to add more water when you put in the vegetables, depending on how much broth you want. Then add everything else, seasoning it to taste. Ms Dash is the perfect answer to the herbally challenged! It works in everything! Bring back to boil, then simmer covered 30 minutes to an hour. Now share it with family & friends. Buttered bread goes well with it. Or my husband prefers buttered crackers. Enjoy!

Spinach Soup with Green Onions

I just made this last Saturday for the first time. It is so easy and so good!

Melt 4 TBS butter in large saucepan.
Add 1 bunch green onions chopped (Scallions)
Saute about 3 minutes until tender.
Sprinkle with 1/4 cup flour and whisk for about 1 minute.
Gradually whisk in 3 and 1/2 cups of milk. Keep whisking until it comes to a boil and thickens (about 4 minutes) Remove from heat while you do the next part.
Melt 1 Tablespoon butter in large pot (med-high heat)
Add 1 10oz. package of of spinach - toss until wilted and tender about 3 minutes. (You want it to be bright green)
Add wilted spinach to milk mixture.
Puree in batches. (If you have an immersion blender use it, as it is so much easier!)
Return to saucepan, season with 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg and chopped dill or mint if you have it. Rewarm and enjoy!
Gook luck! Barbara

Italian Chicken "Penance" Soup

This is really a variation to the Italian Wedding Soup...but we kids called it Penance Soup because it took 1 hour to roll the tiny meatballs to add to the soup...and well, it makes for a good penance!

To any chicken soup, add:

1 pound of leanest ground hamburger, mixed with Worchester sauce, parmesan cheese, 1 egg, generous salt and pepper and roll into tiny dime to nickel sized meatballs...place on plate until all done, then put in soup.

Use the smallest pastina noodles to add : some varieties are Acine Pepe( like little dots) , Rizo ( shaped like rice ) , or stars

These little additions also very yummy in Turkey Soup.

Buon'Appetito!

At the time I was converted to Jesus, I wanted so much to get closer to Him, but I felt unworthy and totally incapable of doing it.
I had been praying for a miracle, to no avail, when I remembered what St. Teresa of Ávila had said about St. Joseph.
I entrusted my need to him, asking to be led to the feet of Jesus, to His arms, to His heart...
Not a day had passed when the miracle happened. My negative feelings disappeared and I actually experienced the nearness of Our Lord, His mercy, His forgiveness, and His love. What joy!
Since then I have grown ever closer and closer to Jesus and Mary, and, of course, to St. Joseph.

Slow cooker Bean Soup with Klase -
(German dropped dumpling)

1 Ham shank rendered down night
before. Take shank out of water & put both in frige. Defat rendering liquid next day & cut ham from bone & cut up.
Carrots-fresh or 1 bag frozen
Onion - diced
Celery - diced
1-2 cubed potatos
3/4 bag of navy beans Great Northern beans can be used also. Follow directions on package.
3-4 bay leaves

Klase Ingredients
3 eggs beaten or egg beaters
2 TBS milk (1/8 c if receipe is doubled)
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp. salt

skim fat off rendering liquid. Put defatted liquid into crock pot.
Add beans, carrots, celery, onion, potatos, bay leaves & diced ham from shank. Add enough water to cover ingredients about 1 1/2 inch from top of slow cooker. Turn on high & let cook.

To make klase mix together beaten eggs, flour, milk & salt. Drop by spoonfulls (I used an icedtea spoon -dipped into the boiling water first to prevent sticking) into boiling water for about 3-5 min.
Remove klase & add to soup. You may have to add to soup just before serving if there is not enough room in crockpot.

If you like a harder dumpling use more flour. Be sure water is at a rolling boil when dumpling is added. ENJOY!

It is a little work but well worth the effort!
